This December, Amanda and I decided to fly the coop and headed to South America to complete one of our fitness goals! Can you guess what it was??
To hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru!
Every year, Amanda and I set 1 big fun, fab fitness goal. This year, we chose to take on one of the 7th wonders of the world and head to Peru. This hike is 4 days, 45km and 14000ft above sea level at the highest point (even typing that makes me think how the heck did we do it!). Thank goodness for all the lunges, squats and cardio drills in bootcamp or this chick never could of made it. Plus, all that lower body work came in handy when it came to bathroom time- I will never curse holding a low squat again!
From the delicious food to the scenery, Peru completely blew away all of my expectations! I loved the ceviche and it was a great way to recharge with some delish low fat protein. One word of warning to all our veggie and vegan chicks, South America is hard to find any meat free proteins but we did nosh on a ton of tasty quinoa (the soups are too DIE for!) so you won’t be comepletely lost!
I was wearing my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I was burning in a day. Are you ready for this…I burned a whopping 6000 calories on average a day! Holy Chick!
If you know Amanda and I, you know how much we love to laugh! And this trip was full of funny and embarassing moments. Let’s just say living in the mountains for 4 days is alot different than camping in the Sandbanks..llamas, jungle, bathroom au naturel- I think I even created a new lunge in the process (don’t ask!)
Check out our pics below (click on them to make em big!)! Where do you think we should head on our next adventure- recommendations appreciated!!
