Happy Wednesday!
In today’s post I was going to give you a recap of our fab weekend at the Ottawa Women Show and tell you about all of the inspiring women we met who shared their fitness accomplishments, stories of health and weight loss and their struggles with us. Now I will share that in a later post but after chatting with them, I began thinking alot about motivation and what motivates me everyday..in life, fitness, my career on my drive home.
To be honest, I have been feeling a little down lately. Not sure if it is post summer blues, feeling overworked or that I have just hit a bit slump, but I have been feeling like I really need a little pick me up lately. So on my drive home I decided to put together a list of all the things that motivate me when I feel down to keep active and healthy, continue my passion of helping other women reach their full potential through FIT CHICKS and just keep loving life and being positive in general. It really helped me refocus! Here a little taste of my list (Mom, you are on there too but I only have limited space for this post:)
1. My best friend and Co Head Chick Amanda. Whether we are planning new workouts or travelling the world (this pic was on our way to Chile during our South American adventure to hike Machu Picchu – don’t you love how we are still both wearing FIT CHICKS yellow!), she always is there to keep pushing me to think bigger and never give up.
2. My Curiosity. I am insatiably curious. I love learning new things, exploring new places, meeting new people and trying to decipher why people do what they do (or why I do what I do!). I recently watched an interview with the amazing Diane Sawyer and she was chatting about her life and how her one piece of advice is to always wake up curious! Life will never be boring if you are excited to see what is around the bend.
3. Sunny days! Even though I don’t always get to see the sunrise / set in Maui, beautiful weather, sunshine, being outdoors by the ocean, mountains or even in my amazing city Toronto – motivates me to make today a great day!
4. My nieces. They are twin 4 year old named Jayme and Delaney and they are hilarious! Jayme told me this past weekend “Auntie Laura, i don’t like you very much because I love you too much!”. I want to always be a healthy example for them (even though my sister already has them requesting broccoli as a snack- she is magic!)
5. My Chicks! I am so lucky to get to have a job where I get to meet, train and work with so many amazing women. The stories they share with me, seeing how hard they work in class and having a team that truly give 150% to helping other people try to reach their goals, gets me all warm and fuzzy! I always say in my classes that I can tell the way you live your life by the way you work out – do you give up when it gets hard, do you make excuses why you can’t make it, do you help motivate others in class. My favorite is when I know I have converted someone into believing they actually are strong enough to do this and that they deserve to be healthy strong (it is scary how many chicks believe they don’t!). It motivates me to keep at my own fitness goals and keep making our FIT CHICKS programs even better.
I have taken my motivation list and put it on my fridge so on the days when I am feeling low, it reminds me about what motivates me today (I even feel alot better after writing this post!). So don’t be shy – share with me what motivates you too! I would love to know!
