JULY CHICK OF THE MONTH
Hey Chicks,
Summer is halfway over, but we are still going strong with our outdoor bootcamps ! and have arrived! Need some added encouragement to get out there and finish summer stronand get sweating? Well look no further than our latest FIT CHICKS success….the amazing Christine!
What made you decide to join FIT CHICKS?
I don’t have one specific reason as to why I joined fit chicks but I have to say, it was the best decisions I made regarding health and fitness in my life. My journey to weight loss began 2 and 1/2 years ago. I went on a really strict no carb diet (UNHEALTHY) dropped over 60lbs in no time at all. After 5 or 6 months everything came to a standstill, no more weight loss. I was able to maintain my new weight for about a year. At this point I decided I needed to do something. So, I decided I was going to join a gym. Well….let’s just say that didn’t work. I felt so lost and uncomfortable. I had no idea how to use the machines or even what my first steps would be. When I got home I was feeling so discouraged and I Googled women’s Bootcamp and low and behold FIT CHICKS popped up. I saw the offer of a free class before they actually wanted you to make a commitment. I went back and forth for about 2 weeks about going. Finally I sent an email and FIT CHICKS sent me my free class pass. The following week I decided it was time and I showed up for my trial class. I was so nervous showing up and a million things were going through my head but I pushed through it (mind over matter). My trainer Veronica was so warm and inviting as well as all the other ladies in the class. My first class was such an amazing experience that after class I went home and joined for the month of July. When the month of July was done, I was hooked!!! I loved the classes so much I joined for a year and love the new road I’m on to health and fitness!!!
What is the biggest change you have seen in your life since joining FIT CHICKS? How has fitness and nutrition changed your life for the better?
The biggest change I have seen in myself since joining FIT CHICKS has to be my strength, endurance and confidence. Although I had always been a confident person no matter what size I was I did tend to shy away from trying new physical things of fear that I wouldn’t be able to do it. NOT ANYMORE!!! Through Fit Chicks and my amazing trainer Veronica I have learned the importance of meal prep and how to make healthy food choices in any situation. I have learned how to fuel my body pre workout and post workout to get the maximum results.
What do you find is your biggest challenge to continue to choose to be active? How do you overcome it?
My biggest challenge has been working through the program with a knee injury. When my injury happened I was feeling so discouraged. I was finally on the right track and really enjoying the classes. I was limited in the running and jumping exercises in class but my trainer Veronica put in extra time and effort to modify my workout and I still ended up leaving the class with a fantastic workout. She even took the time to give me exercises to work on at home to help strengthen my knee. I haven’t overcome my bump in the road with my knee yet, but I’m working through it to stay on track.
What are 2 – 3 tools you use to keep you on a healthy track outside of class?
I like to use the portion meal guide (using your hand as measurement) to measure out my protein, vegetables, carbs and fats. It comes in handy when you are in a situation where you are eating out and also doing meal prep.
If you could give one piece of positive advice to a chick just starting on her fitness journey, what would it be?
The first step is the hardest step to take, but just imagine once you get over that first step your just one step closer to achieving your goals.
Do you have a healthy “go to” recipe that you use for a meal that you take with you? Please share
Cucumber, Tomato and Chick Pea Salad (recipe found on Facebook)
2 large vine-ripened tomatoes, chopped
1 English cucumber (this is the one without the seeds), chopped
1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas (Garbanzo beans)
2 Tablespoons finely chopped red onion
1 cup chilled seasoned rice vinegar (more or less if needed)
Freshly ground black pepper
Directions
In a large bowl gently toss together tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion and chickpeas with seasoned rice vinegar. Let sit for 15 minutes to marinate, stirring a couple of times. Season with pepper and serve.
What are 3 things in your gym bag and/or kitchen could you not live without?
I could not live without my water bottle, slow cooker, and Tupperware.
What is your fave FIT CHICKS Signature workouts & why? Is there anything that is different about your experience at FC than at other gyms or classes?
My Favorite FIT CHICKS Signature Workout has to be the Circuit Training workouts. I like the fact that with every rep you try and push yourself as hard as you did in the first round.
Being fierce is about healthy inside & out. How do you stay motivated and thinking positive about fitness and health? What do you do to nurture your soul and celebrate your fierceness?
I have to give credit where credit is deserved and my biggest motivation is my Chick Sergeant Veronica!!! She is so helpful and inspiring. Even when you feel like giving up she’s right there with you giving you that last push of positive encouragement and gets you through it. She has taught me it’s not all about the numbers on the scale (which was my focus) but opened my eyes to everything else like strength, energy and inches. Also, the strength and energy I feel within myself keeps me motivated. What keeps me engaged is all the changing routines throughout the program and all the tips that come from Veronica and the FIT CHICKS team. There are always new recipes to try and challenges to get through 🙂
