JANUARY CHICK OF THE MONTH
As we have just started 2013 and are on countdown to our first bootcamps of the year starting on Jan 7th, we thought what better way than to celebrate with something we have never done before (you know we are wild like that!)
To kick off an AMAZING 2013 of , we are truly celebrating the strength of sisterhood and giving the crown of “CHICK of the Month” to not one, but 2 FIERCE chicks who have embraced “Livin la vida FIT CHICK.” They have been each other biggest cheerleaders on their journey to fab fitness results, healthy changes in mind & body and inspired those around them (we are all warm and fuzzy!).
With Lisa getting married and wanting to feel fierce on her wedding dress, this was the perfect chance to not only change her body but get healthier in the process. Recruiting her BFF / Maid of Honor Stef to be apart of this journey, this dynamic duo from our Brampton Bootcamp are a true testament that those who sweat together, succeed together (and can have a ton of fun in the process!).

1. What made you decide to join a fitness program? Did you sign up together?
LISA: It was Leanne, a previous FIT CHICKS of the month. I work with Leanne and she was off on maternity leave, when she came back to work in September I was so impressed! She looked amazing. I asked her her secret and she said FIT CHICKS. I am getting married in March and wanted to look fabulous and thought FIT CHICKS is what I need to do. I turned to my bridal party and shared the FIT CHICKS website. My maid of honour, Stef was equally excited and we signed up without thinking twice and have LOVED it every since!
STEPHANIE: Lisa and I signed up for Fit Chicks together. Lisa heard about the program throught a friend and colleague Leanne who also really loved
the program and recommended Fit Chicks highly. Lisa and I both wanted
a change and I had no hesitation about signing up when Lisa suggested
it (although I was scared as to what to expect)
2. What were your reasons (or goals) when signing up for bootcamp? What have your results been like since joining bootcamp?
LISA: My original reason was to look fab in my strapless wedding dress, period! Since I have joined I have noticed that I am not only losing inches, but I am feeling stronger, have tons more energy and just feel GREAT! In total since September I have lost 7 inches off my body. My clothes are fitting better and I am really noticing that my arms and legs are toning up…eat your heart out wedding dress!
STEPHANIE: One of my goals of course was to lose weight, however, my first
priority was to become more fit and have more energy. Since joining
in September I have lost just over 10 lbs and a total of 15 inches off
my entire body. I have much more energy and feel that I am carrying
my body with more confidence. As for my fitness level, when I began I
was doing push ups on my knees but have since starting doing push ups
from my toes. My cardio has also improved, the thought of doing one
burpie in September made me want to run far far away, however, a
minute of burpies is now quite manageable.
3. We all need support! How has working out with a friend helped you reach your goals? How do you support each other’s success in and outside of class?
LISA: I am so happy that Stef and I are in this together. We have been friends for over 20 years and have always been each others cheerleader. I find it difficult to start any workout program and stick with it. With Stef being such a close friend I feel I have accountability to her and myself. Even the days I feel exhausted she always has something positive and supportive to say….we will feel so good after working out, and its true!
STEPHANIE: Having Lisa as a workout partner has been amazing. Lisa is so
encouraging and has been my biggest cheerleader through this entire
process. Having a friend to workout with also gives me accountability
There have been evenings where one of us may be tired and not in the
mood for class, however, we really motivate each other and always
remind each other that we have never felt awful after a workout and
that we would regret not going.
4. What is your fave FIT CHICKS workout? Which exercises do you love to hate?
LISA: I really like the workout called “8 Steps to Fabulousness”. I love to hate Tabatas!
STEPHANIE: My favourite workout is “Burn Baby Burn”. I love strength trainingand this workout really gives you that burn! And of course doing
Tabatas. I think that is every one’s love to hate workout. I don’t mind
doing the squat jump ones, but the frog jump tabatas is a killer!
Partner work is also fun and makes the hour just fly by.
5. In terms of nutrition, what changes did you make? What helped you keep on track?
LISA: I think there have been small changes, because FIT CHICKS is in the evening I find that I am snacking less during the week and buying less junk food. I am also drinking less wine (my favourite food :). I also find that I am planning my meals better and am working on including more veggies in my diet.
STEPHANIE: Admittedly, I could be doing more nutrition wise. I know that I
have been making better choices, eating smaller portions, opting for
salads instread of fast food however, the weekends tend to be free
reign and I really want to work on changing that.
6. What would be your advice to a chick looking to change her health but is too scared?
LISA: I am often talking about FIT CHICKS and how amazing it is. My advice would be one day at a time, making small changes over time won’t feel as overwhelming as changing your workout routine and diet all at once
STEPHANIE: I too was scared to join a bootcamp class. I didn’t think I was
fit enough and was afraid that I would not be able to keep up with the
class. Our Fit Chick Sergeant is amazing and shows everyone two or
three levels of each exercise. When I was struggling with one
exercise (the crab walk) Christina was very encouraging and didn’t let
me give up. That is what I really like about Fit Chicks, it gives
women of all ages, sizes and ability a chance to make a change for the
better without being intimidating. One has to believe in themselves,
if you really want to make a change you will. (it also helps to have
an amazing friend to do it with 🙂

“Stephanie and Lisa, you Chicks have worked so hard these past few months and deserve the spot light on the FIT CHICKS blog! You both have made great gains since starting the class this past summer (most noticeably, graduating from doing push ups from the knees to push ups on the toes! Even one legged push ups too!) Your overall strength and endurance has greatly improved and I feel so special that I get to see that improvement every week! Whatever goals you set out to accomplish, whether in class or outside of class, I believe you will accomplish them because of you are both so determined and work hard to get what you want (and it shows!)!
