FITNESS FRIDAY – Head Chick Amanda gets her MRI results..

Hey Chicks!

So I had some fantastic news yesterday – I finally got my MRI results back and it turns out that my injury which they suspected is not even half as bad as my sports therapist anticipated! Woot woot!

When I arrived at the office I was very nervous as my Doctor was concerned that I had broken my L5 (spine injury) since my back has been hurting like crazy since October of 2010! So we went through and got an MRI to be sure that what looked like a break on the X-ray was actually a break but it turns out it is not a break at all but just a slipped disc! I know a slipped disc is nothing to celebrate lol but in this instance it is since I thought that my bone was actually fractured or broken.

So that was the great news – the not so great news was that it turns out I have a new injuryL

When Team FIT CHICKS did Oxfam Canada Trailwalkers 100KM hike this past summer I had fallen and hurt my knee. No big deal right, well wrong. Turns out that the fall is not what hurt me but the way that the first aid peeps wrapped my knee has potentially ruptured my tendenat that runs along my left knee and down to my foot. We do not know for sure what is going on down there so I have to head to get an ultrasound to be sure but either way I am super pumped to hear they are not related and that my back can heal itself!

I was told to help my back from slipping any more I need to do more core work – so Annex Chicks get ready for way more plank variations at Bootcamp! Also I need to avoid any back bending moves so in yoga I just find alternative moves to do or take rest during that sequence.

This injury has really been helpful though in many ways because it has re-affirmed to me that you need to do three things:

1. Listen to your body and honor your body at all times! If it is saying “ouch” when doing something then stop doing it and find out why ASAP.

2. That you should always get a second opinion – I had a doctor previously tell me there was nothing wrong and that we could just “snap” me back into place – YIKES!

3. That anytime you head to your sports therapist office to always bring your own shorts with you – otherwise they have some paper ones they will give you to wear which are just not flattering I don’t care who you are LOL.
