Mama Chick Mondays – Eating at the Movies

Hey Chicks!

Yesterday I enjoyed a fab afternoon sans kids with my Mama at the movies. After this, it’s going to be a while till I come back for another movie as upon reading the link to How To Fix A Misaligned Jaw – Belmar Orthodontics, I realised its high time I get my Incisors and canines pushed a little back. So to sum it up I might be getting braces. Now regular movie going can also derail a fat-loss plan if you indulge in their concessions. (It can also break the bank! I don’t know how they get away with the mark-up on treats!) So since I am health conscious (and not to mention cheap!) here’s my tips for the next time you are catching a flick!

  • First off, bring a big bag – but Chicks already know that!
  • I always bring a water bottle and a travel mug with tea
  • Fresh sliced fruit makes a great snack – today we had a container of bluebs!
  • Watch out for snacks like trail mix, dried fruit and nuts. While technically healthy, a portion is 1/4 cup. Are you really going to be satisfied with that?
  • While mini rice cakes are pretty much empty calories, they don’t have that many calories to do any major nutritional damage, and they can satisfy a crunchy, salty craving.
  • Movie popcorn is horrendous when it comes to the fat and calorie count. If you want pop corn, pop a bag of lite microwave stuff at home and put it in you bag!
  • Raw veggies are great for mindless munching.
  • If you want chocolate, bring in a 100 calorie chocolate bar and eat it slowly.
  • If you really want to buy a treat there, stick to something like frozen yogurt (a small cup), a SMALL (ie normal size 50gram) chocolate bar, or a cookie.
  • Bring a pack of gum or mints. Especially if your date has popcorn. It just won’t taste the same if you are chewing or sucking on a mint!

If you only go to the movies once a year, then sure popcorn and candy can be a treat. But if you are trying to lose weight, or go to the flicks fairly frequently, then you can’t make every time and excuse to go into a candy coma.

A large popcorn can set you back up to 1200 calories!!!

Focus on the movie and the company!

Have a fab day!
