15 Fabulous Snack Ideas
Hey Chicks!
Hope you all had a fab long weekend! Back to reality today 🙁
I wanted to talk to you all about snacking.
Snacks are fabulous….but….
You have to change the way you define the word snack. It should be thought of as a small meal. When you think snack you think mostly processed, high carb/high fat treats. In fact, the question I hear the most is “what do you feed your kids for snacks?”
I try to make sure that “snacks” are just small meals made up of protein, fruits, veggies, healthy fats and sometimes whole grains. And they have to be easy things to throw together – I can’t be bothered to make big batches of muffins and the like (plus, I would eat them all!)
To give you some ideas, here of my some of mine (and my kids) faves:
- plain greek yogurt with blueberries and a spoon of nut butter
- oatmeal (it doesn’t always have to be for brekkie!)
- healthy popsicles
- green smoothies
- veggies with hummus or guacomole
- hard boiled eggs served with fruit or veggies
- protein pancakes (these are even yummy eaten cold, so you can pack them up to go!)
- fruit with some nut butter (fruit alone isn’t a great snack, it’s very high in simple sugars and won’t stave off hunger for long!)
- string cheese with some grape tomatoes
- scrambled eggs topped with berries
- 1 piece of ezekiel bread made into french toast, topped with coconut butter and a few berries
- plain yogurt mixed with pumpkin, cinnamon, cocoa and a few walnuts
- tuna mixed with broccoli slaw, sesame oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds
- kale chips – there are a ton of recipes for these floating around, here is one of my faves!
- larabars – they are great in an emergency (pick em up cheap at Costco!)
- leftovers – always a fab snack!
And I have more ideas too – but the list was getting too long! And notice there were no 100 calorie snack packs on there! It’s pretty easy to avoid processed sugary junk and eat a wide variety of fun and fabulous food.
What are your fave healthy snacks, Chicks?
Have a fab week!
