Wellness Wednesdays – Getting Support to Reach Your Goals

Women in Biz Conference

Hey Chicks!

Hope you are all having a fab week and managing to stay cool – it is a scorcher out there!  My Toronto Danforth boot camp class looked liked a wet t-shirt contest last night (thankfully it is a rooster free zone!) and I can’t wait for our outdoor boot camps to start on June 6th.

Today’s post is not so much about fitness but is inspired from an event I attended this week This past Monday Amanda (my bff and head chick) and I headed to the Women in Biz Conference in Toronto.  It was a day long conference filled with amazing, inspiring female entrepreneurs (and Twitter addicts!) who are all taking their passions and building their dream businesses.  We met some great women and ran into to some of fave chicks including blogger Morgan from Life After Bagels (always so awesome to see her!).

The 2 types of people in my life

What made me inspired to write about it was that it really reminded me how much we need our support and how it is soooo important to surround yourself with the right positive people who can help you reach your dreams   Whether it be in business, in your fitness and weight loss goals or trying to live a healthy lifestyle, this is what can determine how successful you can be.  In my life I always say there are 2 types of people: the energy suckers and energy givers (not the best names but they work!)

How do I know I am around an “energy giver”?

I talk fast and with my hands. I get excited and positive.  My workouts are better. I work harder (this is how I feel around my chicks in my boot camp class or that I personal train) and leave feeling like I could workout again (k, maybe not all the time :). I am doing positive things to reach my goals and I eat healthier foods.

How do I know I am around an “energy sucker”?

I talk in lower voice that is slow.  I feel tense or stressed. I leave feeling more drained than when I walk in. I avoid their calls and emails. I am distracted and I am procrastinating on my goals. I binge eat.

That said, I am now 31 and have done a pretty good job of “cleaning house” and getting out all of the negative people.  I have learned to listen to my gut, watch my body language and if I see any “energy sucking signs”, I know this is not a good person for me to be around.

So if you feel in a rut in any area of your life, take a step back and look at all the people in your life. Ask yourself “How do I feel when I am around this person?”.  You may need to make some changes but I promise, it will be well worth it!

Have a fab day!
